Composed and conducted by Art Mineo, 'Man in Space with Sounds' served as the soundtrack to the futuristic "Bubbleator" exhibit at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. The Bubbleator was a large, bubble-shaped hydraulic elevator with transparent acrylic glass walls. These transparent walls gave the illusion of looking through an actual 'soap bubble' by refracting light to obtain a rainbow-like effect for the riders inside. It moved 2.5 million people (150 passengers at a time) through displays promising an easier life ahead (The World of Tomorrow). The 'House of Tomorrow' might include disposable dishes, automatic windows, and changeable color schemes. Gyrocopters might zip and whiz you to the 'Office of Tomorrow', which might have miniature micro-mail, machines to transmit correspondence, and machines that communicated with each other.
'Man In Space With Sounds' was the soundtrack heard on this 21 minute tour of the future.
Welcome to tomorrow.....

"First floor, threats and thresholds, frustrations and fulfillments, challenges and opportunities......"

"Rising in the center of the Coliseum, symbolically just beyond reach and yet within modern man's range of vision, is a structure of cubes bathed in light. Within this cellular formation are the promises of tomorrow....Visitors ascend to the overhead exhibit in a globe-shaped elevator...for a tour of the future."

"Empty - the Bubbleator descends for another 100 passengers to the World of Tomorrow in the center of the Washington State Coliseum. On its return trip to the twenty-first century the modernistic elevator rises in a glow of gold light while passing through shimmering reflections from the rainbow of the future world."

(I always knew this was what space sounded like!)

Yes, I believe this was actually recorded in outer space. What sounds like cheesy reverb is actually authentic lunar acoustics.

Just checking out your site, Dr B.---keeping the Tiki alive, one mini-umbrella at a time. Impossible sounding drink concoctions...
